Here is my IHA story: I Started my vocation in 1983 at the Midland Farmers' Market. I am now starting my 29th year in the herb Business.

I was just plugging away, not indeed intelligent what I was doing with a lot of Check and Error. I would pay attention to my customers and seduce Changes accordingly. I am a educator by education, so the proprietorship Prospect of Marketing, bookkeeping, Ordering and Advertising was beyond what I knew. I kept ideal Records, but I didn't grasp what to do with them for impose purposes. The erudition curve was at bottom high.

Fortunately my shepherd was a Business houseboy and he taught me how to set up my Books and every year for many Years we would get together (he was in Minnesota or Texas) and do the year end Books. I knew I could use some Advise so when an herb Leaflet came out, "The Business of Herbs", I at the drop of a hat subscribed. Over the next ten Years as my traffic grew I compassion about scribble a cookbook. In 1993 I platitude an add in "The Herb Companion" Magazine, a colloquy that was to be held in Seattle.

There was to be a workshop there on self-publishing. The discussion was put on by the International Herb Association (then it was Called The International Herb Growers and Marketers Association - IHGMA). The tariff for the talk depended on if you were a fellow or not.

I don't tip the exacting figures but if you were a member the Conference cost, let's believe $100. If you weren't a associate it cost $200. Membership was $100.

It was a no brainer so I joined the IHA and have been a colleague ever since. That earliest symposium was amazing. There were hundreds of herb clan all in one Place. They shared an abundance of Information, some of which I sympathy were trade secrets.

Somewhere within the colloquium it was said, "If we all have Strong businesses we are Stronger as a unit." The self-publishing workshop was led by Jim Long (one of our speakers this year) and afterwards I felt I had the Tools to correspond and reveal my win engage "The Herbal Breads Cookbook." I came territory from that Forum completely full of communication and enthusiasm. My head was spinning with ideas.
